"Coming to Stillness"

Coming to Stillness is a workshop which explores making an inward journey to God through contemplation and meditation.  The sessions, within a Christian framework, are based on the teaching of the Jesuit priest and spiritual director Anthony de Mello, and also use material formulated by The Fellowship of Contemplative Prayer. Each session lasts 1 hour, and is followed by tea and coffee for those who want to stay.

The workshops are held at St Mary’s R.C. Convent in Green End Road  at 10.00am on the second Tuesday of the month.  Contact Jane Ward on 01442 212999

Craft Circle

The Craft Circle is an informal gathering of people with wide ranging craft skills,  meeting in each other’s homes every six weeks or so.  We bring something to make, share ideas, offer help and encouragement and enjoy a cuppa. Nearly all of what is made is given to sell at our annual Church Fayre (St John’s main fund raising event), or during other  relevant festivals e.g. Arts Festival.

Friendship Teas

The Friendship Teas are open to anyone, but may be especially appreciated by those who are living alone, those who have been bereaved or anyone who is at a loose end on Thursday afternoons, for friendship and mutual support. Afternoon Tea is served from 3.30pm in the church hall,   usually on the second Thursday of the month. For forthcoming dates, see the Parish Magazine or Newsletter.

Home and Family Group

The group provides social meetings for ladies, usually with a speaker followed by coffee and a chance to meet and make friends.  Meetings are normally on the first and third Mondays of the month at 7.45pm in the Church Hall, lasting around an hour.  A varied programme is arranged for each year, and there are occasional outings with special evenings near Christmas and before Lent.  New members are always welcome.
